MINUTES OF GENERAL MEETING--Friday, April 15, 2011

Board Meeting Minutes- March 8, 2011
  ;

THE FRIENDSHIP FORCE OF GREATER LANSING

Board Minutes

Tuesday, March 8, 2011

The meeting was held at the home of Diane & Ron Parsons. President Sue Hill opened the meeting and minutes and treasurer’s report were read and approved.

Tonya Green updated us on the in-bound exchange from Kaluga, Russia. March 16-22. She has host families for everyone and Sue Hill passed out the schedule for the week.

Carol Wilson-Duffy was unable to attend but sent in a possible schedule for the Ottawa in-bound exchange.  She has sent the schedule to them for their approval.

Nathan Wood reported that there was not enough interest in the Israel exchange so that has been cancelled.

The International Bridge Walk (2.8 miles) on Saturday, June 25 will be arranged by Tonya Green.  Anyone wishing to participate should contact her.

No in-bound or out-bound exchanges for 2012 have been assigned by Friendship Force International so a long discussion was had about  looking into an inter-state exchange or contacting clubs to arrange an exchange.  British Columbia was suggested as a member had offered an invitation.  Other possibilities: Ghana, Ottawa, Brazil. Sue will look into these.

At the last board meeting, it was suggested that we celebrate World Friendship Day by inviting International students from Michigan State University over to members houses for dinner.  Carol will be asked to coordinate this.

The next general meeting will be Friday, April 15 at Hannah Center.   Carol Wilson-Duffy will present a program on the MSU English Language Center.

The meeting was closed followed by refreshments and conversation.

Respectfully submitted,

RoseMary Hopp, Secretary

THE FRIENDSHIP FORCE OF GREATER LANSING

GENERAL MEETING—Friday, February 18, 2011

After pleasant conversation and nibbling on a table full of wonderful “finger foods”,  President Sue Hill opened the meeting at approximately 7:15 P.M.  There was no treasurer’s report.  The minutes of the last board meeting were read by secretary.

Tonya Green announced that all was in place for the Kaluga, Russia, exchange, March 17-22, 2011. Program was sent out to all members.

Carol  Wilson-Duffy reported on the inbound exchange from Ottawa, Canada.  She has had numerous correspondence with the exchange director.  They will be arriving the Wednesday after Labor Day.  More information to follow.

The outbound exchange to Israel  is questionable and other clubs will be asked to participate.

The International Bridge walk at Sault Ste. Marie on Saturday, June 25 will depend on how many plan to attend .  Tonya Green will make arrangements if there is enough interest.

There are no inbound or outbound exchanges planned for 2012.  Interstate exchanges will be looked into.

How to celebrate World Friendship Day  was extensively discussed and many suggestions were made such as having international students over for dinner.  A definite course of action will be taken up at the next meeting.

The next general meeting is on Friday, April 15 at 6:00 P.M.  A potluck dinner followed by a program on the English Language Center by Carol Wilson-Duffy at Hannah Center is scheduled.

The next board meeting is on Tuesday, March 8 at the home of Sue Hill.

The meeting was closed followed by a very interesting  slide presentation of the Ireland exchange by Sue Hill with comments by other members who attended.
